About Retro Pro Wrestling

Welcome to Retro Pro Wrestling, a nostalgic look back at the last forty or so years of professional wrestling.

It all began in earnest back in 2012, when I came to selling off a few old wrestling DVDs. I wanted to have some memory, or some kind of record of the shows I'd enjoyed, so blasted out a couple of reviews and posted them on a new blog.

Then I got an idea, a crazy idea perhaps, but an idea nonetheless.

It occurred to me that, even though I've been a life-long wrestling fan since I was eight years old, there were many pro wrestling shows produced by WWE, WCW, ECW and other companies that I'd never actually seen, or at least hadn't seen in a very long time. 

So I made my mind up to watch, and review, every single WWF/WWE pay per view between Wrestlemania I and Wrestlemania 30.

Why stop at 30? Why not, it seemed like as good a number as any.

Two years into this thing, and we've only just scratched the surface. At time of writing, we've just covered the first 10 years of WWF pay per views, stretching from the first Wrestlemania to the 1994 Survivor Series.

So we've got a long way to go, dear readers, and I hope you'll join me for the ride. Along the way, I'll be sharing lots of other goodies as and when I can, including reviews of shows from WCW, TNA and ECW, videos, pics and other treasures I find, and maybe a look at other stuff like merch and magazines.

How is Retro Pro Wrestling different from other pro wrestling review sites?

One of the biggest problems I've found with other sites featuring WWE pay per view reviews, and one of my biggest motivators for starting a site of my own, is that most of those reviews aren't really reviews at all.

Rather, I find that most wrestling writers on the web instead offer a blow-by-blow account of the action: "The Rock whips Stone Cold into the ropes, clotheslines him. Nearfall." - That kind of thing. 

I have no problem if other people enjoy that, but personally, I find it pretty boring. That's why I try to write reviews with a little more life, reviews which yes, explain what happened on each show, but offer a different perspective, a fresh opinion, and comments here and there on things I find interesting or funny about each show.

Think of those other reviewers as the play-by-play, think of Retro Pro Wrestling as the color commentary.
